The 20-Minute Beach-Day Reset: Keeping the Sand at the Shore
Is there anything better than a West Michigan summer? Seriously, we live for these months! There is nothing quite like spending the day soaking up the sun at Grand Haven or Holland, walking the pier, and grabbing a scoop of ice cream on the way home. It’s pure bliss.
But let’s be totally honest for a second: half of Lake Michigan's beautiful shoreline loves to follow us right into the house. Between the beach towels, sandy flip-flops, and damp swimwear, it only takes one sunny afternoon for your cozy living room to start feeling like a dune. (We’ve all done that barefoot walk across the floor and felt the crunch, no fun!)

Create a "Sand Station" (5 mins): Sand travels faster than kids on a sugar rush. Designate a little "launchpad" right by the door, on the porch, or in the garage for bags, chairs, and coolers. Give everything a good shake outside before it crosses the threshold, and toss flip-flops straight into a dedicated basket.
The Towel Shake & Hang (5 mins): Damp towels left in a sad pile on the floor are a recipe for that musty lake smell. Do a quick sweep of the house, take the towels out to the deck or clothesline for one big final shake, and hang them up to dry in the warm evening air.
The High-Traffic Sweep (5 mins): Grab your broom or a quick stick-vac and just hit the main drag, the entryway and the direct path to the bathroom or kitchen. Don't worry about getting under the couch or making it perfect tonight; just clear the walkways so your bare feet stay clean!
The Cooler Clear-Out (5 mins): Leaving soggy ice and a stray juice box melted in the bottom of the cooler overnight is tomorrow morning's headache. Unload the leftover snacks, dump the ice in the grass, and leave the cooler lid open to air out.
